アニメ版は、母親の石化へのココの反応が原作よりかなり改善されてる。漫画ではココは記憶を消されそうになってようやくキフリーの手から逃れようとするんだけど、その様子は悲惨というよりむしろ滑稽に見える。白浜は当初、どのようなトーンで描くべきかまだ決めかねており、冒頭が重苦しい雰囲気にならないように、多少軽くやろうとしてた。でもの後はそうした軽さはやめて、悲劇を徹底的にドラマチックに描くようになったから、アニメ版の描写も白浜が何らかの形で関わっている可能性は十分にあると思う。
They improved Coco’s reaction to her mom’s petrification a lot compared to the manga. In the manga she only starts wriggling from Qifrey’s grasp when threatened to be mindwiped and it looks comedic rather than harrowing. I feel Shirahama hadn’t quite locked down what tone she wanted to go for and tried adding some levity so that the beginning wouldn’t feel like a complete downer. She later stopped doing this and she lets tragedies be 100% dramatic so I can believe she had a hand in how the anime portrays the scene.
