Lalah could have set him on a path in life that didn’t lead to him increasingly becoming more disillusioned with the Federation and eventually feeling like there’s nothing to do but drop a rock to end the cycle. He’s in no small part blaming Amuro for this.

I watched this movie a couple weeks ago and thought it totally destroyed Char’s character for me. Was I filtered? Like I know he’s always been a loser and a manchild that’s he’s had to carry around but OP pic and his dug up old rivalry with Amuro felt really weird. Not enough to really validate his plan even though it is genocide.

富野はその定型句を捨てて自分だけの言葉を作って最高に変な会話をするんだ。凄いぞ
He is, he writes interesting history, the bad thing about him is his dialogue is autistic-tier.
Most Japanese writers are like this, they write autistically so they use stock phrases or cliche (see 90% of videogame, anime, manga or LN).
Tomine ditches the cliche and makes his own stuff with the weirdest dialogue you can see. It’s amazing.

でもだからこそ、最初からクソだったアムロとは違ってシャアは素晴らしいキャラクターなんだよね
that last convo is supposed to make you realize how pathetic, selfish, and egotistical Char really was, everything he did was for himself and his mommy issues.
Still, that’s why he’s such a great character, unlike Amuro who was shit from the very start.
