あかね噺の最近の章では、自分の地位を笠に着て主人公や他の後輩をイジメていた先輩に対して、主人公が落語の噺の中で笑いものにすることでやり返すという出来事があった。欧米の読者の多くは、このことについてあかねは何も悪くない、当然の報いだと思うはずだ。だが日本では調和と上下関係を重んじるから、たとえ先輩がクソ野郎でもあかねの行いは間違っているし敬意を欠いている、その結果を受け止めなければならないと登場キャラに喋らせてい

先輩が問題にしてるのは、仕返しの手段として落語を使ったことによって、観客と落語という芸そのものを軽んじたことに対してだろ。自分の芸に真剣な人間なら誰だってすごく理解できる話だ
The older guy’s problem was that she disrespected her audience, and the art of Rakugo itself by using it as a vehicle for getting back at someone. That is very understandable if you’re autistic enough about your art.

I don’t see this being particular Asia at all. Imagine if an office worker did a public presentation and got some laughs during it by talking about how much of an asshole his supervisor is. This is what Akane did. Minus the getting laughs part, she did it solely for herself.

あかねの”私SUGEEE”で終わらせず、自分の行動に対して非難を浴びたことは喜ばしいことだと思う。
その一方で、「先輩を敬え」以外の理由を考えることはできなかったんだろうか。
On one hand I’m glad akane got shit for her actions instead of a “yes w○myn slay” moment people where preemptevly bitching about when it happened.
On the other, could they have come up with a better reason then “respect your senpai”

I think it’s less this and more “respect Rakugo and don’t taint it with drama”.

彼の言葉のどこが悪いんだ？別に相手の足にキスしろって言ってるわけじゃないだろ。ただ、落語のような芸の世界で他の演者を誹謗中傷して名を上げるのは、自分の墓穴を掘る行為になる、と言ってる。観客の知らないところで人を馬鹿にするような落語には、誰も行かないでだろう
What’s wrong with what he said? It’s not like he’s saying she needs to go kiss the guys feet. Just that she’s digging a hole for herself if she makes a name for herself by slandering another performer, especially in an art like Rakugo. No one’s going to a Rakugo where you’re mocking someone they’ve probably never even heard of.
