こういうエピソードを見ると、なぜ自分がアニメ好きなのかを思い出すよ。エピソードを見たら、作画のスタイルがすごく分かりやすいせいで、誰が作画したのかすぐに判別がついたあの頃が懐かしい。最近は、総作画監督の役割だとかで絵柄を統一することに気を使いすぎだよ。それから、スケジュールがクソなせいで、AD(アニメーションディレクター？)が1話に1人か2人ではなく、最低でも半ダースも使わなきゃいけないのも影響していそう。昔はもっと自由だったTriggerでさえ、最近はこの罪を犯している。グリッドマンは大好きだけど、元のモデルを離れて描くのが許されるのは五十嵐くらいしかいない、こんな厳しくやる意味はないと思うんだけどな。少なくともパンスト2期はその正反対の方向に行くはずだ。
Episodes like this make remember why I love anime. I miss when you could watch an episode and immediately tell who made it because the style of the drawings was so recognizable. These days they’re too concerned with keeping the designs consistent with the chief animation director role and whatnot. I guess it’s also a consequence of the schedules being sh*tty and needing at least half a dozen ADs for every episode rather than one or two. Even Trigger that used to allow more freedom is guilty of this recently, as much as I love Gridman pretty much only Ikarashi is allowed to go drastically off model, and I don’t think being this strict is worth it. Well at least PSG2 should go in the diametrically opposite direction.

菅野一期が作画監督と絵コンテを担当し、おそらくお前らが思い浮かべているアニメーターであろう五十嵐海は、少なくともこのシーンの原画を担当してる。菅野と五十嵐のスタイルはいつもうまく噛み合ってるな。
この2人は、他の才能あるアニメーターたちをこのエピソードに参加させることにも成功していて、おかげでこのエピソードは最初から最後まで楽しめるものになってる
Ichigo Kanno did animation direction and storyboarding and Kai Ikarashi, probably the animator you’re thinking of, did key animation at least for this sequence. Kanno and Ikarashi’s styles have always meshed well together.
Those two have also managed to lure other talented animators to work on the episode, so the episode is a treat from start to finish.

今回は俺が漫画を読んでて、魔物という概念とそれを成り立たせる理由付け／生物学のあまりのクリエイティブさに心から感銘を受けた回なんだよね。
スライムが細胞のような構造をしてるってのもクールだったけど、リビングアーマーが実は軟体動物のような生物の群体であって、その鎧が呪いや魔法をかけられた代物ではなく、彼らの貝殻だって発想は俺の人生で思いつきもしなかった。
Back when I was reading the manga, this arc is the one that got me genuinely impressed with how much creativity is in the monsters’ concepts and the reasonings/biologies behind them.
Like, slimes having cell-like structure is cool and all, but never in my life I could have come up with the idea that living armors are actually colonies of mollusk like creature and the armors are just their shells, not just some cursed/magic imbued objects.
