When you actually start to see Japanese outside of fiction it’s initially a bit of a shock how many males actually use “watasi”, and how common “uti” is on the street outside of the Kansai region.
In fiction only people from the Kansai region use “uti” but it’s very common in reality informally in the Kanto region too.
“Atasi” is also not nearly as bimbo-like in reality as it is in fiction it seems.

広く使われてる代名詞はほんの一握りにすぎないけど、大抵は、特にgaijinにとっては、TPOに相応しくない代名詞を使ったって世界の終わりになる訳じゃない。
でもお通夜の場で俺が相応しくないのはすぐに理解できるだろう。
There’s a small handful of pronouns in common use but for the most part, especially as a gaijin, it’s not the end of the world if you use one too polite or too informal for the situation. Obviously between the two you’d rather be too polite than too informal, but you quickly understand that ore might not be the best choice at a wake.
